Blandford Square, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne

Completed in September 2015, The Blandford Square redevelopment is situated on the site adjacent to the Summerhill Conservation Area in Newcastle. The completed proposal consists of 3 to 7 storey student residential scheme providing accommodation for 369 student rooms. The proposed scheme repairs the urban block, enhancing the streetscape by provision of active frontages and has greatly improved passive surveillance within the street.

The finished scheme comprises 2 main building wings, both of rectilinear form, designed to positively address the urban context and street, maximise street frontage and repair the urban grain.

The building profile is stepped between the DM Building and 12-14 Blandford Square, as well as towards the residential terraces along Westgate Hill Terrace, creating an adept transition in form and massing.
