Salford Outpatients, Salford Royal Hospital

With the recent opening of the new PFI building, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust identified a need to upgrade their existing outpatients suites to match the standard of service being provided within the new PFI.

DAY were tasked to produce a workbook, which first analysed the existing outpatients department and would then provide solutions to the identified problems. DAY identified that wayfinding and patient flows were a problem within the existing unit, using an airport inspired approach, we created a "gate" system for the various outpatient clinics improving both flow and wayfinding. Each gate incorporated a focal point, this bespoke element incorporated an area where the patients could place their outcome form as well as a nurse base and clinical wash hand basin.
