Creation of an enhanced sense of arrival and approach into Aintree Hospital. Tower Block facelift and new Hospital Entrances.
This project entails the façade overhaul and upgrade works to the main tower block situated at the Aintree Hospital site. The new façade will deliver enhanced performance qualities to include; upgrades to the thermal performance of the external envelope; improved levels of fire integrity and resistance to the exterior façade envelope cladding materials to comply with Reg. 7 and enhanced and improved acoustic properties to the cladding and glazed components. The new façade comprises of a new rainscreen cladding system, with Rockwool insulated aluminium powder coated cladding cassette panels, hung on a proprietary cladding rail and framing system. The work has been meticulously planned to ensure that the interface with the existing building is kept to a minimum, to aid with reducing the impact upon the live hospital environments, within the tower block. The work will also entail the formation of a new, more pronounced Main Entrance, all of which has been designed to align with the recently developed language and materiality palette achieved on the Trust’s recent UCAT project. The new Main Entrance will expand it’s current footprint to create an improved sense of arrival and provide a greater depth of relief to the drop-off zones situated in front of the existing Main Entrance. Works will also include some exterior hard and soft landscaping to help ease congestion and also enhance vehicular and pedestrian movement to, from and across the site towards the new Main Entrance. Emphasis has been afforded to selection and density of the cladding patination to help reduce the physical mass of the existing building, whilst placing an element of emphasis on colour migrating across and towards the new Main Entrance.
